Healthcare IT under siege: CloudWave is under attack

Healthcare IT finds itself at a critical crossroads where valuable data opportunities collide with growing cybersecurity threats.

Rural and community hospitals, in particular, are facing huge costs as ransomware attacks increase. The challenge for healthcare providers is that their expertise is in clinical care, not IT services, making system resilience more important than ever, according to Erik Littlejohn (pictured, left)president and CEO of CloudWave, formerly Park Place International LLC. Electronic health record and electronic medical record systems are high stakes – and when they go down, the consequences go beyond IT disruptions.

“You see, every week, health care [is] under attack from a cybersecurity perspective. A lot of bad actors coming in, ransomware, and stuff,” Littlejohn told The CUBE. I think a lot of the themes you hear here [at .NEXT] – fitness, recovery – is very important in health care.”

Littlejohn again Mike Donahue (right)CEO of CloudWave, spoke to CUBE John Furrier and the host Alison Kosik of Nutanix .NEXTin an exclusive interview on CUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s live streaming studio. They discussed the impact of AI on patient data and simplifying infrastructure for healthcare providers. (* Disclosure below.)

Protecting healthcare IT infrastructure from the shadow of AI

The Shadow AI has a new home: the hospital. Every time a doctor attaches a patient’s notes to ChatGPT for a quick diagnosis, the protected health information slips silently outside the firewall — untracked, unregulated and untraceable, according to Donahue. CloudWave, a managed service provider focused on healthcare, focuses on helping these organizations build management processes and safeguards to prevent data leakage while using technology as a power multiplier for more employees.

“Staff levels continue to be one of the biggest challenges – even if you can find staff, of course [about] retaining and retaining those employees,” Donahue saidyes clinical care business. They have a duty to care for patients and serve that community – and IT becomes a cost center.

In community and rural hospitals, healthcare IT isn’t just competing for budget — it’s competing for attention. To address these workloads, CloudWave is moving customers to Nutanix Inc. of a private cloud platform with the aim of providing a solution that lowers operating costs for providers. This allows hospital staff to focus their attention where it matters most, according to Littlejohn.

“IT workers want to spend money [time] and nurses, helping them with the workflow,” said Littlejohn.
